BA Reveals Merger Talks with Qantas
Further consolidation was looming in the airline sector after British Airways confirmed it was in merger talks with its rival airline — Australia’s Qantas.
After the airline announced it was exploring the potential of dual-listed status, under which both companies could retain their identities, shares in BA closed up 12%. BA also said merger talks with the Australian airline would not affect negotiations already under way with Spain’s Iberia.
Highmore Latest Victim
As the housing crisis deepens, Scotland’s depressed housebuilding sector has been dealt a fresh blow with news that the Edinburgh-based Highmore Homes has collapsed into administration.
Highmore, the former housebuilding arm of Kenmore Property Group has fallen victim to the industry slump after a slide in sales and the collapse of a number of its joint-venture partners.
Britain Losing Identity as Traditonal Icon
According to a research, it is found that UK is losing its identityas familiar sights in the country, such as red telephone boxes, lollipop ladies and milkmen, are gradually vanishing these days.
Other traditions like fried breakfasts and Sunday being “a day of rest” are parts of the country’s cultural landscape that are slowly fading away. People believe that the spread of supermarkets and decline of services like post offices and greengrocers are changing the country’s spirit.
