Fruit Farmers Suffer From Wellpict Fall

As the debts engulfed central buying group Wellpict European, which is a major supplier to Asda, dozens of fruit farmers could see their blueberries and strawberries rot in the punnets.
Administrator BDO Stoy Hayward is expected to be appointed this week after the firm, with a £46m turnover, struggled with debts and an ill-timed foray into commercial property. The collapse has left farmers to fend for themselves.
