As Britain emerge from a deep recession, experts predict that the FTSE 100 could reach 7000 points next year, which will be its highest ever level.
The index of the top 100 performing companies on the LSE, currently trading at just over 5000, is set to top 6000 points and could even smash the previous high of 6930.2 seen in the dotcom boom of 1999.
According to the financial website The Motley Fool, the FTSE saw its best ever quarterly performance with gains of 22% between July and September but further rallies seem likely.
A surging index would ‘trickle down’ into the wider economy.
