According to a new study, it is suggested that the Britons earn more money but have a poorer quality of life than many of their European counterparts.
The British endure longer working hours, with fewer holidays and a higher cost of living than in other countries. Although the British had the highest net household income—£35730 a year, which is more than £10000 above the European average—it was not enough to lift Britain out of bottom place in a quality of life table for ten countries.
Researchers compared 17 factors, including income, taxes, the cost of essential goods, working hours, holiday entitlement and life expectancy. Britons may have been the highest earners but spent most of it on keeping a ‘roof over our heads, food on the table and the homes warm’.
The British aloso had the lowest number of holiday days a year—an average of 28 compared with 41 in some other countries—and paid the most for diesel and food. France and Spain topped the European Quality of Life Index.
