British Airway failed to reach a deal with union over jobs last night. The airline said it wanted agreement with union bosses before the end of the day for a range of cost cuts, including 3500 job losses.

US consumer confidence rose to a nine-month high in June. The Reuters University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers said that its preliminary index of confience for June rose to 69 from May’s 68.7. That was slightly below economists’ expectations of a 69.5.

China’s factory output growth rebounded more than expected in May. The acceleration growth, to an eight-month high of 8.9 per cent from 7.3 per cent in April, beat economists’ forecasts of 7.5 per cent.
